About the Artist

Malin Enström is a visual artist based in St. John’s. Born in Stockholm, Sweden, she has also lived in Southern Europe, North Africa and North America. The main focus of Ms. Enström’s practice is photography and textiles, for which she has won the Arts & Letters Award three times(2013, 2017 & 2019) and was a finalist for 2014 Emerging Visual Artist Award (VANL-CARFAC Excellence in Visual Arts). Ms. Enström was nominated for the YWCA: St. John’s Women of Distinction Award 2016 for her first solo show, One of of Nine, which documented the lives and experiences of breast cancer survivors in Newfoundland. One Out of Nine was selected to tour across both Newfoundland and Labrador.
In her work, Ms. Enström explores shapes, surfaces, patterns, and textures in landscapes and objects, and celebrates their often unexpected relationships. She strives to reveal how lines can flow in natural and constructed environments and how their softness can create contrasts with surface colours and textures. Ms. Enström’s work can be found in many private and public collections in Europe and across Canada
She is represented by The Leyton Gallery of Fine Art in St. John’s, Newfoundland.
